Scientific Committee Meets to Guide IHDP's Future in Human Dimensions Research

With more than 30 participants, IHDP successfully held its 15th Scientific Committee Meeting at Jawaharlal University JNU, School of International Studies in Delhi, India.
The committee made very important decisions for the future advancement of the Programme, such as the launch of the Earth System Governance Project as a new IHDP core project and the Integrated Risk Governance project as an Pilot Science Project with the aim to transform it in the coming months into a core project as well.
The Scientific Committee further provided the projects approaching their synthesis phase with important guidance and for the upcoming IHDP Open Meeting 2009, the 7th International Science Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change that will take place in Bonn, Germany, on 26-30 April, 2009.
Back to back with the Scientific Committee, IHDP convened its 6th International Human Dimensions Workshop (IHDW) with five paralel training seminars on themes relevant to the human dimensions research field.
The Scientific Committee took this opportunity to interact with „the next generation“ of human dimensions researchers – a strong statement from the committee in favour of capacity building as one of the flagship activities of IHDP.
Following the tradition of previous Scientific Committee Meetings, a public lecture was held with the keynote provided by Elinor Ostrom who is a former IHDP Scientific Committee member. With the strong mandate resulting from Delhi, IHDP and its Secretariat in Bonn are well prepared to take the next steps to meet the increasing demands in the field of the human dimensions research.
