5th Bonn Dialogues: "Living with Risk - Preparing for the Worst and Learning to Adapt"

The 5th Bonn Dialogues on Global Environmental Change were held as a special event of UNESCO's World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development and took place on April 1st 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at the Deutsche Post Tower, Bonn. This time, the panelists discussed the role of education, training, and adaptation and coping strategies used to deal with the world's growing environmental hazards.
The event, which is a rule for Bonn Dialogues, was public and free of charge, and took place in English.
Four top-class panelists for the 5th Bonn Dialogues event were:
Badaoui Rouhban, Director of the Section for Disaster Reduction at the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Paris. Within UNESCO he is the focal point for the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
Benouar Djillali, Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, professor in Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management (University of Science & Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB); Director, Biult Environment Res. Lab. (USTHB); Associate Member of the Third World Academy of Science (TWAS); Senior Associate to the International Centre for Theorical Physics (ICTP); Consultant of the World Bank, UNESCO , IIED, UN/ISDR, ALECSO (Arab League).
Manu Gupta, Executive Director of the Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEED), a voluntary organization working on Disaster Risk Reduction and Response in South Asia.
Zinaida Fadeeva, Associate Fellow for the Education for Sustainable Development programme. Development Coordinator and Researcher of activities associated with the Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE), United Nations University Institute for Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) .
