IHDP-Côte d'Ivoire

Overview:

During the 1998 IGBP Open Science Meeting (Nairobi, Kenya), Dr. Abdourahamane Konaré discussed the opportunity of setting up a committee on human dimensions of Global Environmental Change in the Ivory Coast with the IHDP Secretariat. Dr. Konaré brought together colleagues from social and natural sciences to set up a multidisciplinary group of researchers. From 26 to 27 Mai 1999, a workshop on the HDGEC was held at the Gulf hotel in Abidjan, honoured by the presence of the Presidents of both universities of Abidjan as well as a representative of the Minister of higher education. The workshop was sponsored by the IHDP as part of the IHDP Seed Grant Initiative. A first network of 35 members was set up with objectives of enhancing initiaitves of HD research and then formulating joint HDGEC projects.
