Outreach

IHDP initiates and supports multiple outreach activities aimed at sharing knowledge on the human dimensions of global environmental change within the scientific network, and outside with policy-makers, and stake-holders. These include:
IHDP Open Meeting
Since 1995, the Open Meeting of the human dimensions research community have grown into the world's largest international science conference series dealing with societal aspects of global environmental change. They help to define the state-of-the-art of human dimensions research, outlining new research agendas, theoretical frameworks and methodologies. The IHDP Open Meeting also serves to promote the enhanced policy relevance of social science on global change.
International Human Dimensions Workshop
One of IHDP’s objectives is to facilitate research capacity building. Every second year IHDP conducts a capacity building workshop with differing foci on human dimensions research. The objectives of the workshop are to identify young researchers in developing countries through a competitive announcement to expose them to human dimensions research and try to involve them actively in IHDP related activities. These workshops have been most valuable in engaging a new generation into IHDP’s work.
Bonn Dialogues
The Bonn Dialogues Series takes place semi-annually, to bring together a panel of esteemed scholars, who discuss different issues related to human security, disaster reduction, and the human dimensions of global environmental change. The event is open to a public audience and takes place in the city of Bonn, Germany.
Science-Policy Dialogues
IHDP's Science Policy Dialogue is a workshop series, that encourages open dialogue among leading scholars in the field of energy, high-level government officials from around the world, prominent journalists, members of the business community and other stakeholders on the relationship between energy requirements, resources, security and the human behavioural patterns needed to move societies globally towards sustainability.
