Training Workshop on Asian Development Pathways in the context of transitions towards a "Green Economy"

Organized by International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) and its National Committee in China (CNC-IHDP). Sponsored by Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), IHDP and CNC-IHDP.
This workshop will encompass seminars on the following topics: governance, technology, economics and equity. It will consist of lectures, discussions and group work. Participants, under supervision of trainers, will work on writing policy briefs or research proposals to be submitted to APN for consideration in 2012.

Who should apply?
Early-career researchers and decision-makers working in the field of Green Economy or global environmental change, from either a scientific or a political perspective, are encouraged to apply. The organizers are interested in working with Asia-Pacific regional professionals who have conducted studies, developed projects, or have otherwise been involved in an activity that deals with the workshop themes from a local or regional perspective.

Letter of Motivation: explain your education and work experience, your interests and your future plans, if any, related to Green Economy, and why you would like to attend the workshop.

Short paper (1000 words maximum) outlining Green Economy issues and questions in your country or region; be sure to cite your sources for any factual information included.

Pdf or link to one published paper, if you are an academic researcher.
Criteria for Selection
Your application will be assessed based on the following criteria:

for researchers: academic degree of PhD or enrolled in doctoral program; at least one published paper; currently studying or working in field of academic research

for policy-makers: university degree; currently studying or working in field of public policy or governance

applicants should be in the early stages of their career—that is, no more than 5 years after their final degree

CV and letter of motivation show excellent educational and work history, along with strong interest in and future plans related to Green Economy issues

short paper shows clarity and creativity, acceptable English language writing skills, appropriate use of information sources, and some understanding of Green Economy concepts and issues
In addition, we will make choices to ensure balanced gender and regional representation at the workshop.
The following countries will be given special preference: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pacific Island Countries, Pakistan, Philippines, Russian Federation, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.
The organizers expect to be able to provide funding for up to 25 participants, covering travel expenses, accommodation and full catering. Logistic support will be provided including travel arrangements and visa procedure.
