An increasing world population and the globalisation of economies make the provision of sufficient food a major problem in many parts of the world. Impacts of global environmental change cause additional complications, but not all individuals and societies are equally vulnerable. Of ultimate interest to the project is the link between global environmental change and societal well-being, requiring an innovative and interdisciplinary approach. GECAFS is an international, interdisciplinary research project focused on the interactions between food security and global environmental change. It seeks to improve the understanding of the relationships between food systems and the Earth System and is helping to bridge GEC science and development agendas.
