UNU-IHDP

The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) is an international, interdisciplinary science programme, dedicated to promoting, catalysing and coordinating research, capacity-development and networking on the human dimensions of global environmental change. Its mandate is to provide international leadership in framing, developing, and integrating social science research on global environmental change and to promote the application of its key findings. IHDP is a joint programme of the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the United Nations University (UNU). The IHDP Secretariat (UNU-IHDP) facilitates the development of IHDP’s programme and implements the strategic priorities. Its core functions encompass coordination of research activities, capacity building, organization of major events, and dissemination of results. For information, visit www.ihdp.unu.edu.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist the IHDP Project Officer in the following:

  • Servicing of requests and needs of the IHDP Scientific Committee, including preparation of the documentation to the Scientific Committee and other IHDP meetings; 

  • Synthesizing and presenting key findings of IHDP research projects in the form of Summary for Decision Makers, policy briefs and the IHDP Update journal;

  • Liaison functions to IHDP scientific projects, partner programmes and other international bodies;

  • Preparing and organizing scientific meetings, workshops, and symposia, including reviewing scientific concepts, content and applications to IHDP workshops and events, if applicable;

  • Providing substantive input to IHDP proposals and reports; 

  • Other tasks and duties as required.

Required qualifications

  • University student, preferably in the field of interdisciplinary environmental studies, within the final stages of their studies

  • Excellent command of English

  • Some practical work experience in scientific project management would be an asset

  • Good knowledge of Office programmes

  • An interest in scientific research and high-level science-policy-interaction

  • Motivated and outgoing, team player

  • Willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment and impeccable conduct towards our partners and guests
