Summer School on 'Managing Transitions to Adaptive River Basin Management'

The Summer School is intended as a sequel to last year's Autumn School in Peyresq, France which introduced NeWater and non-NeWater researchers to concepts of and methods for adaptive river basin management.
The Global Water System Project (GWSP) is able to offer funding (participation and travel costs) for up to 5 young researchers (PhD-Students and PostDocs). 2007 Marie Curie Summer School in Emerging Theories and Methods in Sustainability Research (THEMES): Institutional Analyses of Sustainability Problems. This Summer School will be arranged in cooperation with IHDP and will take place from 18-29 June 2007 at the Institute for Forecasting, Slovak Academy of Sciences, in Vysoke Tatry, Slovak Republic. This summer school will discuss the role of institutions in governing human use of natural resources, particularly under increasing pressures of global environmental change. Specific objectives include developing deeper insight into the genreal theory of institutions with specific applications to resource regimes (local and global). Also, covering methods for the analysis of institutions, and institutional and ecological economics within new member states facilitating dialogue and knowledge exchange amongst the countries in transition from various geographical regions.
Expert Meeting on Climate-Society-Environment Interactions

Marie Curie European Summer School on Earth System Governance

The Marie Curie Summer School on Earth System Governance will be held back to back with the 2007 Amsterdam Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change. Participation in the Summer School includes access to the conference on 24-26 May 2007 and intense lectures, paper discussions and group work from 28 May to 6 June.

APN: Call for Proposals
The APN is pleased to announce that the 2006 Calls for Proposals have been launched. The APN is inviting proposals under two separate programmes, the ARCP Programme and the CAPaBLE Programme , for funding from April 2007, and is able to provide a limited amount of financial support for research and capacity development activities that fall within its areas of interest. The 2006 Annual Regional Call for Proposals (ARCP) and the 2006 CAPaBLE Call for Proposals involve ONE COMBINED & OPTIONAL pre-proposals stage, and the APN recommends, in particular, those researchers who have never submitted a proposal to APN before to consider submitting a pre-proposal. The workshop will be about the role of institutions in causing and mitigating global environmental problems, its substantive focus will be on water and trade. Researchers, stakeholders and decision makers working in the field of global environmental change with an interest in the workshop theme, both from a scientific and a political perspective, are enouraged to apply. The Collegeof Europe, in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute, organises a conference on "Sustainable resource management, raw materials security, Factor-X resource productivity – tools for delivering sustainable growth in the European Union" on 6/7 December. The deadline for the submission of abstracts will be 7 July 2006. Target groups are researchers, in particular from economics, as well as high-level decision-makers from business, public policy and NGOs. Young researchers are especially encouraged to present a paper. The conference will take place in Bruges, Belgium, one of the most scenic places throughout Europe.
